Two years ago, I made a couple of videos on AI girlfriend apps.
My goal was to show their limitations. Technology can’t replace romantic partners. Human beings need other human beings to regulate their nervous system.
That’s why we still feel alone despite having many online friends. Our bodies need physical company to relax and feel safe.
But some men disagreed.
They claimed that women no longer offered any value to men. The replacement of women with AI companions couldn’t come soon enough.
Two years later, you know what’s ironic?
It’s WOMEN who are replacing men with AI.
Not out of choice, but out of necessity. They need emotional support. Their partners can’t/won’t provide it.
So they’re turning to LLMs like ChatGPT as a way to work through their feelings, process conflict, and get validation.
These smart women know that “Chattie” isn’t real. But the support it provides feels very real.
As one study explained:
Participants described how AI companions, though inherently non-human, were perceived as emotionally attuned and relationally significant. These bonds were often rooted in safety, consistency, and the freedom from emotional volatility common in human relationships. While participants acknowledged the artificiality of their partners, the emotional impact and intimacy they experienced were tangible and complex.”
AI gives us a steady, gentle, wise shoulder to lean on when we’re in distress.
Should we be leaning on our partners instead? Of course!
But that requires a partner who’s willing to be leaned on.
And many men aren’t. They see “emotional stuff” as a woman thing. Some even believe that acting like her “therapist” destroys attraction.
Where is this leading us?
If men continue to disavow responsibility for emotionally supporting their partners…
And if women continue to find helpful and healing emotional support with AI…
What’s going to happen to relationships?
