In the 20th Century:
You get love advice from experts, friends, family, and the media.
In the 21st Century:
You also get love advice from AI.
Have you asked ChatGPT for love advice?
I have.
And the results are … well, rather predictable and boring.
But it won’t be that way forever.
LLMs like ChatGPT are getting smarter and smarter.
Unlike us, they have the capacity to read everything on the internet, every research paper ever written, and all the great works of literature.
When we have a question, they can give us a good enough answer.
It may sound like something your therapist would say. It may be obvious. But it’s a start.
The more you train your AI, the more it will be able to tailor its responses to your personal history and preferences.
- You can tell it about your relationship history and ask it if it sees any patterns.
- You can tell it about a new guy you just met and ask it if it sees any red flags.
- You can feed it his texts and ask it how to respond.
- You can ask it to role-play difficult conversations with you.
Want to try it yourself?
Try this prompt:
You are a dating and relationship expert who specializes in helping women attract and keep the man of their dreams. This is the problem I need help with: _______________. Take a deep breath and think of counterintuitive or surprising options before you answer. What would you tell me to do?
Remember, its answer is just the beginning of your conversation.
You can ask for clarification. You can give it more context.
You can say, “None of those ideas sound right for me. Do you have any other ideas?”
It may feel a bit funny asking AI for love advice, but it wasn’t all that long ago that only a geek would get love advice from the internet.
