In the 20th Century:
You failed if you didn’t managed to snag a guy and stay married.
In the 21st Century:
You fail yourself when you stay in a relationship that doesn’t serve you.
You did NOT want to be a divorcee in the 1800s.
You could lose your children.
You could be left penniless.
You could be denied the right to remarry.
You’d never escape the stigma.
Thank goodness you’re living in the 21st century!
Today, more than 1 in 10 Americans has been divorced.
Most of us have divorced friends (or are divorced ourselves).
We wouldn’t DREAM of discriminating against divorcees. We know that marriage doesn’t always work out. It’s not the end of the world.
Staying in a bad relationship can quite literally make you sick and take years off your life.
Some research has found that women tend to be happier after a divorce. Compared to men, they’re less likely to feel that life is no longer worth living… and more likely to feel liberated.
It can be reassuring to learn that 81% of divorcees who remarry are happier in their next marriage (although many women choose not to remarry).
Have you stayed in a relationship long past its expiration date? Would you have done things differently?
