Christine Hart was always that friend who wanted to know EVERYTHING about everybody’s love lives.

She found herself intuitively knowing what advice to give.

Back in 2007, she was talking to a friend over coffee. She mused, “I love giving people dating advice, but how the heck am I going to turn this into an actual business?”

He looked at her and said, “Tell me exactly. What do you do?”

She thought about it. Giving people advice on how to live their lives was basically coaching, wasn’t it? And professional coaches charged for the advice they gave.

“Well, I see myself as your date coach!” she replied.

That was the beginning of something beautiful.

Christine went on to launch her own date coaching business, Canada’s very first service dedicated to helping singles find love.

Over the next 17+ years, she would go on to help thousands of clients find love and see dozens of clients walk down the aisle.

She’d give media interviews (over 200!), write her own book, and even star as a love expert on 13 episodes of the TV series LoveTrap.

Then she got to thinking…

Because love coaching was so new when Christine began her business, her learning curve was steep.

She had to figure out the ropes by herself. There was no one who could mentor her.

“I honestly could have really used some support from someone who had done this before,” Christine admits. “I made a lot of mistakes before I finally figured everything.”

But now she had an incredible toolkit of tips, tricks, resources, and strategies to help her clients and run a successful business.

How Big Can You Dream?

Most of us would love to have a job that changes people’s lives and brings more love into the world.

But you gotta pay the bills.

Christine knows how that feels.

She remembers her first job out of college.

She was looking at the job boards, thinking how boring everything sounded.

She had all these ideas of her own for a business, but when she told people about them, they told her it would be safer to just get a job.

So she did. She signed up for a temp agency….

And she lasted about a week.

“I can remember that train ride home,” she says, “and I remember thinking, ‘I can no longer deny that I just want to be an entrepreneur. I want to start my own thing!'”

And she did it.

She launched a business in the entertainment industry, hosting auditions for film and television. It became a go-to spot for directors and producers from all over the world.

“Did I know what I was doing?” she asks. “No, not really! Did I learn every day? Yes!”

That experience taught her to say yes before she was ready.

“The perfect time honestly never arrives,” she says. “You just keep going, and you keep yourself open to possibility and opportunities.”

But Don’t You Need Qualifications?

Helping people find love is an incredible way to earn a living.

“Imagine working in an industry you can feel good about and one that puts positive energy out into the world and being a part of so many people’s happiness,” Christine says.

But it’s one thing to give love advice to your friends. It’s quite another to charge for it!

“The truth is that being a dating coach means you’re giving objective, not subjective, advice, and people pay for that,” Christine says.

People have listened to their friends and family and co-workers, and they’ve got nowhere. Now they want to learn from an expert with training and knowledge, rather than just personal experience.

She adds, “What clients want most is someone to talk to someone who gets their struggles and someone who understands them. So, as dating coaches, what we really need most is empathy and compassion.”
